PECOS – A riot has been reported at the Reeves County Detention Center III in Pecos.
The Reeves County Sheriff’s Office says they are on the scene and are on standby in case they are needed. Pecos Police are also on standby.
Units from DPS, Pecos County and the Border Patrol have also responded.
The nature of the disturbance is not known at this time, but the recreation center near building III was set on fire. Black smoke was coming out of the building for a time, but the fire had died down after burning for an hour or so.
Some inmates were seen standing in the prison yard, but they were not rioting.
So far, NewsWest9 has been unable to confirm any information about possible injuries. Officials with the prison say there are no hostages at the prison.
The Reeves County Detention Center is located on West County Road 204 and is a private prison. It is run by the Geo Group.
Authorities have set up a one mile perimeter around the facility. West County Road 204 has been blocked off.
