RCMP investigate Stony Mountain Institute homicide, after inmate stabbed

Earlier in June, 2012, Stonewall RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing at the Stony Mountain Institution involving two inmates.

RCMP report that on June 12, 2012, a 69-year-old male inmate was transported to hospital in Winnipeg suffering from a stab wound. On June 25, 2012, he succumbed to his injuries.

The incident is being investigated as a homicide by the Stonewall RCMP Detachment with the assistance of the RCMP Serious Crime Unit, RCMP Winnipeg Major Crime Unit, RCMP Winnipeg Forensic Identification Section with the cooperation of Correctional Service of Canada.

Police say that the name of the victim is not being released at this time pending the notification of next of kin.
