An inmate remained hospitalized Saturday after a riot at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison in Corcoran on Friday night, prison Lt. Lupe Cartagena said.
The inmate, who suffered head injuries, was one of nine inmates sent to the hospital after the riot, which began about 7 p.m. in the prison’s dining hall. The other eight inmates have returned to the prison.
In all, 63 Hispanic inmates were involved in the riot, Cartagena said.
Prison staff successfully stopped the riot shortly after it began, but many inmates were left with cuts and lacerations.
The reason for the riot remains under investigation, Cartagena said.
