A Birdsboro man who is in Berks County Jail on a charge of attempted murder wrote a note asking another inmate to help kill his victims and witnesses, Berks County detectives said Monday, June 11.
Christopher D. Yingling, 42, of Birdsboro, was charged with criminal solicitation to commit murder of the first degree.
According to a news release:
Detectives started a probe after getting information from jail officials May 22.
Detectives learned that Yingling, in jail waiting for court action on charges of attempted murder and raping a child, asked another inmate to help orchestrate killing Yingling’s alleged victims.
Those targets included the 14 year-old girl, his girlfriend’s ex-husband, members of the ex-husband’s family, and witnesses, detectives said in a news release.
Yingling is charged with shooting the ex-husband in the parking lot of a Spring Township office complex in January.
He was charged in May with raping the girl.
The handwritten note was a solicitation by Yingling with instructions for a “hit-man” to meet the defendant’s brother, later identified as Brian Yingling.
The note instructed his brother to supply a shotgun, specifically a 20-gauge Mossberg 500, and a Chevrolet pickup truck to be used during these killings.
On June 8, detectives searched Brian Yingling’s Birdsboro home and took two guns, including the Mossberg.
