Inmate with 10 days left on sentence runs away from work crew

EAST MADISON — A 20-year-old inmate with 10 days left on his sentence bolted from a work crew at the Somerset County Jail today, the jail administrator said.

The escaped inmate is Dylan Perkins, who was serving a three-month sentence for revocation of probation, according to David Allen, the jail’s administrator. A Somerset County Sheriff’s Office log said authorities were called to the scene today at 12:37 p.m.

Allen said when he escaped, Perkins was on a work crew unloading trucks delivering to the jail’s kitchen. On the crew, he was earning time off of his sentence and was scheduled to be out well ahead of his maximum release date.

“Out there is not a secure area, so he just bolted for the woods,” Allen said.

Allen said he was last seen running into the woods near the Skowhegan landfill off Malbons Mills Road.
State records show he has two Class C convictions, for aggravated criminal mischief and eluding an officer. He’s 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs 147 pounds with strawberry blond hair.

“He could add up to five years for felony escape,” Allen said. “He just had to wait a few more days and he would have walked out the front door instead of running into the woods.”
