Inmate escaping in police vehicle back in custody

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Officials say an escaped inmate who hotwired a police vehicle and drove away when a deputy stopped for gas is back in custody.

Police say 28-year-old Kyle Robert Dore was caught Wednesday morning south of Abbeville. The car he escaped in, a green Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck, has also been recovered.

Officials say Dore was taken into custody without incident.

Dore was serving a sentence for aggravated assault with a vehicle against a police officer when he fled. State police say further charges related to the escape nt will be handled by the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office.
