CO takes money from inmate to smuggle in contraband

A corrections officer at Dixon Correctional Institute in Jackson, LA is on the wrong side of a jail cell.

A spokesperson for the Department of Corrections says Sgt. Thomas Underwood was arrested Thursday night and charged with malfeasance in office.

Investigators say he admitted to taking $70 from an inmate in an effort to smuggle contraband into the facility.

Underwood was booked into the East Feliciana Parish Jail where he remains on a $10,000 bond.
