Conn Inmate an Apparent Suicide in Prison Cell
State prison officials are investigating a Plainfield inmate's apparent suicide, the second in as many weeks.
The Department of Correction says staff at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center in Uncasville found Timothy Savignac (Sav-en-'YAK) Saturday night with a bed sheet tied around his neck and the other end tied to the top bunk bed. He was declared dead an hour later at Backus Hospital in Norwich.
The 27-year-old inmate had been charged with failure to appear and was held on a $275,500 bond awaiting trial.
The manner and cause of death will be determined by the state Medical Examiner's Office.
An inmate used a bed sheet in an apparent suicide in his cell at Hartford Correctional Center last week.
