Cause of Polk Inmate's Death Awaits Test
An official cause of death for a Polk County Jail inmate who died Saturday is pending the outcome of toxicology test results and a review of his previous medical history, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Gerald G. Jacobs, 46, died at 2:46 a.m. Saturday at Bartow Regional Medical Center, the release said.
Jacobs was serving a 120-day sentence for a probation violation, battery domestic violence and resisting arrest without violence.
He began complaining of stomach problems about 1:30 a.m. Saturday and was taken to the jail infirmary.
An autopsy was performed by the Polk County Medical Examiner's Office Sunday. Jacobs had told jail workers he had a history of stomach problems from "potash poisoning" when he was a child.
