 The Marion County Sheriff's Department is investigating a report of sexual battery in the Marion County Jail.

On Monday, according to reports from female prisoners, a male inmate slipped into a holding area for women.

The department, which operates the jail, declined to comment on how Walter Cushenberry, 39, Indianapolis, entered the cell and allegedly fondled two inmates.

Spokesman Julio Fernandez wouldn't say whether the department is reviewing procedures at the jail.

Cushenberry was arrested Aug. 2 on a warrant on numerous charges: two counts of burglary, two counts of theft, intimidation, disorderly conduct, public intoxication and criminal trespassing.

No additional charges have been filed.
