An inmate at Wende Correctional Facility was involved in an assault that damaged the ankle of a state corrections officer, according to an official of the union that represents state prison officers.

Levar Davis, 27, serving a 15-year-to- life sentence for second-degree murder, attacked an officer one week ago, according to Al Mothershed, western region vice president for the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association. He said the officer’s ankle was badly damaged, and he is recovering.

Mothershed said the union hopes Davis is charged in the matter. A state Department of Correctional Services spokesman could not immediately be reached Saturday, though department records available on the Internet indicate Davis is now in the Upstate Correctional Facility in Malone.
