200 inmates brawl at Castaic detention center
About 200 inmates were involved in an inmate disturbance today at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic, but only one was injured, a sheriff’s captain said.
The brawl broke out around 3 p.m. at the South Facility, said Capt. Mike Parker of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.
“There was an inmate disturbance involving 200 inmates in four to six dormitories,” Parker said. One inmate was hospitalized, he said. No guards were hurt.
Deputies began “clearing out dorms of uncooperative inmates,” Parker said.
“If they are hiding inside, we go in there with plenty of deputies and make sure they come out,” he said. “We remove them, handcuff them, set them aside and reorganize.”
Parker said it was unknown what started the disturbance.
