Idaho Maximum Security inmate convicted for hitting office
An Idaho inmate has been convicted of aggravated battery for hitting a correctional officer. Zachary Tyler Johnstone, 28, struck the officer as he was removing Johnstone from his cell in the Idaho Maximum Security Institution for an investigation into another incident.
IDOC officials say Johnstone was the leader of a gang and had ordered one of his subordinates to attack another inmate. Officers were in the process of trying to restrain Johnstone when he hit the officer. The officer sustained minor injuries.
This is the second time that Johnstone has been convicted of striking a correctional officer, according to an IDOC release.
Johnston is serving time for burglary, grand theft and aggravated battery in Canyon County. He was eligible to be considered for parole in 2013. He will be sentenced in connection with his latest conviction on in January
