Two former northwestern Pennsylvania corrections officers are scheduled to plead guilty to arranging the assault of an inmate.
Thirty-6-year-old Jason Worcester has resigned and 42-year-old Clifford Palmer has been fired as guards at the Erie County prison.
County prosecutors charged Worcester, Clifford Palmer and five inmates in February in the beating of another inmate who was awaiting trial on charges he beat up Worcester’s niece.
The Erie Times-News reports prosecutors have agreed to withdraw conspiracy charges against both guards in return for guilty pleas to official oppression, a second-degree misdemeanor, on Monday.
Erie County Judge Shad Connelly has the option of sentencing the men immediately or setting a future date. They both face a maximum of 2 years in state prison but will have to serve the time in the county lockup if they receive a shorter sentence.
